Well I might as well jump in here and add to the list of Pug lovers. I am the owner, well companion of, two Pugs, a female Olivia and a male, her larger then life son Monty. I bought my daughter a male several years ago and at the time thought they were one of the ugliest dogs I had ever seen, but being a Mom, I bought her one and decided if she liked them there had to be something about them I just wasn't seeing. Well her dog died unfortunately but after having him I knew that I wanted another one, and here I am several years later with two of them. They are always an uplifting part of the day, they always do something that makes me laugh, or just sit with me and keep my lap warm, I know that is why they are on it right?? Love to hear from any other owners, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in loving the breed.

Sounds like the breed loves you too Cleo!! (Milo The Webmaster)

Hi there! I am concerned with our pug dog's weight. She is 1 1/2 years old now and only 13 pounds. She is very active outdoors since we have a big back yard, but she looks too skinny more like a deer than a pug! We have been feeding her dry dog food all this time, but should we be feeding her canned dog food? She does get some table scraps occasionally. Please let us know what you think. I want her to be big and happy!

Julie Rapp Fresno, California USA

email 123sage@thesocket.com

Hi Julie

Well it is difficult to diagnose at a distant, but your description of her activity means that she is feeling healthy enough to be so active. The main thing is, is she still hungry after feeding? Is she wormed regularly? If you are feeding a commercial complete diet, these are usually made to measure, some are higher protein, which may make her active without putting weight on. Perhaps some investigation of the small print on the feeding bag might help with getting the right mix. She may settle down as she matures, and certainly some Pugs are very active & agile, and it is hard to keep weight on them. You could supplement her diet with carbohydrates, such as cooked rice, pasta, potatoes, which are weight inducing, if you do not wish to feed meat. Of meat, the most fattening is lamb and duck. If you are worried a visit to the vet is in order. You could try the FAQs Pages at : http://members.aol.com/PugsUK/webpage/faqsuk.htm (here!!)

To whomever:
I am very new at this so please forgive me. I just wanted to say I scaped through
the web and found this e-mail address. I love pugs. I have one of my own. Her name is Pepper.
It should be named Princess or something but we all make mistakes. I love her to death and
she is the only kind of dog I would ever have in my lifetime again. They are addorable and
you just wouldn't believe it. She doesn't know to many tricks or anything like that but HEY
you should see her. I just wanted to write this to anyone that cares.

My pug is my life and life would be horribly devistating without her.
I plan to breed her and keep one of the pups so she will always have a playmate.

  Sincerely Lpepper.

Thanks very much for your message - it's great to meet Pugs on the Web in this way - so

From:	rhoefer@oldmutual.com (Riana Hoefe)
I have a question, I hope you can help: We have found that both our pugs
have a kind of "attack" sometimes, it happens about once or twice a year.
What happens is that they start shaking and their back legs go wobbly. They
also seem to not be able to focus and seem very scared. Sometimes they
vomit, and their sense of balance is definitely gone. It lasts for about 10
minutes.

Please let me know if you have any information about this.
Thanks
Riana Hoefer

(rhoefer@oldmutual.com)

Hi Riana

Sorry for the delay in reply. I personally do not have an angle on this, please get expert
veterinary advice). It may be a number of things, some pugs have been known to have
epileptic fits, but I cannot say if this is the case with yours. Are they closely related
- it seems strange that they both should show the same symptoms at the same time. Is there
something seasonal that they may be eating (some plant) which is proving to be semi-poisonous
to them ? Please if anyone out there can help, please email the Faqs or Riana. Thanks!

Regards Milo the Webmaster.

Dear Milo
Hello, my name is Megan.I saw Cracker the animated pug. I thoght he
was cute.I love pugs and I wish I could have one.
Are pugs always so expensive? Why?
Did you ever hear of Algy Pug or Percy? They're both pugs.Algy is on
the show Rupert and Percy is on the movie Pocahontas.
My aunt has an adorable pug named Shy.

							Your friend,

Hello Megan

Milo replying...sorry for the delay - well yes Cracker is O.K. but don't you think I'm
appealing...I can tell you that Cracker has enough fan mail, I don't get so much!!
Well we pugs are expensive here in the U.K. perhaps you can find a nice welfare pug to
'rescue'!! Sometimes we need rehoming when our owners go to heaven, or when they just
get too old to cope with us anymore! A sad time but we are very accommodating and just
love everyone, we slip into another Pug Pickers life as if we'd been there all the time.
Hope you get your little pug pal. Keep on wishing, it might come true..

Best regards from Milo X X X.

35. Subj: Pugs and Diabetes Mellitus

Date: 31/08/97

From: Gibsonweb

To: PugsUK

My pug, Beau, (black pug, 8 years old, male) has just been diagnosed with Diabetes. I feel so awful that he was getting sick for probably a couple of months and I just was attributing it to old age. He has alwalys been a little porker, weighing about 27 lbs. He started loosing weight, drinking a lot, then got weak. One morning I went in to wake him and he was in a kind of coma. I rushed him to the vet, and he was diagnosed that day. After a couple of days of intravenus feeding and insulin adustments he was strong enough to stay home. He gets fed regularly twice a day now, 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. He gets one 5cc injection at 9:30 a.m. He temporarily was unable to control his urine, but now is better, although he needs to be put out often, as he can't seem to hold it, and doesn't seem to care that much that he can't. His appetite is good, and his weight has picked up a bit, he had lost some muscle and is getting that back slowly. He had a bad eye condition that came on suddenly the day before I found him in a near-coma state, sticky red eyes, with creamy gunk in them.

I would like to hear from others who own pug diabetics. What is their life span now, is it shortened. How long is a regular pug life span? What about the eye condition? Can someone please contact me about this problem? Was it my fault? I feel so guilty that I wasn't more diligent in watching him. He is such a love, and I feel like I have let him down.

We have three pug dogs, and they are such a special part of our lives.

Thank you for your attention.

Evelyn Gibson

P.S. I am so sorry about your Princess Diana. I loved her very much, too.

Well we are sorry to hear of your plight, but so glad that you were able to save him!  We do not think that you have let him down, it's a difficult diagnosis.  PLEASE can anyone help with more INFO on this condition??  We think an average life span for a pug is around 12 years, but this varies either way, many pugs live to over 15 years of age!

We thank you for your very kind condolences, and are still filled with disbelief......so sad that it happened in the City of Light.....

Hi my name is stevi my aunt just bought a pug,and i'm wondering if it is

easy or hard to train pugs?

A32.  Hi Stevi

Well, its quite difficult to make a decision on your question, because, you will find that it all depends...

on the pug and on the trainer!! Some pugs are much more amenable to training, just as some children are naturally obedient! (Who laughed?).... Well, one thing is for sure, we pugs train up much more easily where food is involved and lots of cuddles and praise! Be patient though, we only have short legs and faces, but endless patience and charm! We don't have the same respect for work though, as a german shepherd, sometimes we make a fast exit for the couch!(we know what's good for us!).

My pug, Angus, was born march 6, of this year and even though i've only had him a few short months i'm amazed at the joy he has brought into my life. He's smart, funny, and loves to go with me everywhere...plus, he doesn't eat much...who could ask for more? Laura   E-mail=LAskew9723@aol.com

I have a wonderful 2 year old pug named Emmitt who has many odd habits. He loves to sit as high as possible on all of our furniture with backs that allow him to perch comfortably-he licks the cushions incessantly and loves to nibble on our shirt sleeves or any other loose clothing. If my husband and I didn't love the little monkey so much it would drive us nuts! He isn't very fond of cuddling unless he initiates it himself and he also refuses to drink out of anything other than a pretty blue coffee mug and it must be on the bathroom floor. Have you ever heard of such strange behavior. I worry about the nibbling and constant licking but the vet just gave him antihistamines when he started licking his front paws a lot but what about licking the cushions? Help! Laura.

A29. Well, I never!!

He realy is a character, can anyone throw any light on Emmitt's addiction to cushions? Could if we the washing powder/liquid you are using?? Anyone help! Please mail!!

From: SkiNonstop

To: PugsUK

I really want a pug, but there is one problem. We go skiing every other weekend, and the place we stay does not allow dogs. Do pugs get depressed if you leave them with a friend all of those weekends?

A28. Hi SkiNonstop!

Pugs love everyone, so although of course they will miss their owners, they are quite happy to cuddle up to 'pug sitters'; they also feel less depressed when living with another pug! One thing is sure pugs love company, so if you can arrange a regular sitter, I'm sure your pug will welcome you back from your skiing jaunts, if you cannot find suitable accommodation on your skiing weekends.
